Exams
Exam policies
- The two midterms are in-person, EVENING exams.
- All exams follow the Stony Brook University policies for in-person exams. In particular, the exams are closed notes, closed books, and students are not allowed to use cell phones, computers or other electronic devices.
- If you have a university-approved reason for taking an exam at a time different than the scheduled exam (because of a religious observance, a student-athlete event, etc.), please contact your instructor and Jason Starr as soon as possible.
- Students should bring their Stony Brook University photo ID card to the exam. Proctors may ask to see the ID card during the exam.
- All students who begin the exam are required to submit their exam packet to the proctors following the submission procedure before leaving the exam.
- During the first thirty (30) minutes of the exam, students are not allowed to leave the exam room. After that time, students may submit an exam and leave.
- When submitting the exam, students are required to sign below their photo on photo sheets at the front of the room. If a student discovers they are in the wrong room (there are usually multiple rooms for common exams), then simply write the correct recitation number, printed name, and signature on the blank space of a photo sheet.
- After submitting the exam, students must quicly gather belongings and leave the exam room. Students should not congregate, make cell phone calls, or otherwise disturb the students who are still completing the exam.
- After the first thirty (30) minutes of the exam, new students are not allowed to join the exam.
- During the final ten (10) minutes of the exam, all students remaining in the exam room must remain seated until the end of the exam, even if they have completed the exam.
- At the end of the exam, students remaining in the exam room will be called to the front of the exam room in small groups to quickly submit exams and leave, so that other students can be called to the front of the exam room.
- Proctors may reseat a student at any time during the exam. This is not necessarily related to suspicion of academic misconduct. Reseated students should resume the exam as quickly as possible to make the fullest use of the allotted time. Any necessary discussion about circumstances of reseating can happen at a later time.
- Exam scores are posted in the grade book of the Brightspace page for the recitation (not the Brightspace page for the lecture). Graded exams are handed back in recitation.
- Regrades of graded exams will only be considered if the student returns the graded exam to the recitation instructor by the end of the recitation meeting when the exam is first handed back. If in doubt, please return the exam by the end of that recitation, and discuss further details in office hours. Once graded work leaves our presence, we will not consider it for a regrade.
- Work considered for a regrade will be regraded in total; all exam problems will be reviewed, and any misgrades will be corrected.
