Midterm 1

Date: week of Feb 24 -28, in class

For Lecture 1 (TuTh): the exam will be given in class on Th, Feb 27. It will cover material up to and including Section 1.6 in the textbook.
Review sheet and practice problems.

For Lecture 2 (MWF): the exam will be given in class on Fri, Feb 28. It will cover material up to Section 1.5 in the book. Section 1.6 is not included

Midterm 2

Date: week of Apr 14 - 18, in class

For Lecture 1 (TuTh): the exam will be given in class on Th, Apr 17. It will cover material up to and including Section 5.4 in the textbook.
Review sheet.

For Lecture 2 (MWF): the exam will be given in class on Fri, Apr 19. It will cover material up to Section 5.3 in the book. Review sheet.

Final exam

Below is the information about the final exam. Note that exam date and material covered varies between lectures - make sure you get information for correct section!

Lecture 1 (TuTh)

Date: Friday, 5/16/14 11:15 AM to 1:45 PM, rm P131.
Review materials:

• Our own midterm 1 and midterm 2 (with solutions)
• 2006 practice final (please ignore problems 9, 14 in that exam. Also note that it doesn't cover chapter 6 at all).
• 2009 practice final

More practice problems will be posted later.
Review sessions: Kirillov: Wed 10-12 in Undergraduate Math Office, Th 10-11:30 in P143. Smith: regular office hours plus in 3-105 during usual recitation time.

 

Lecture 2 (MWF)

Date:Thursday, 5/15/14 11:15 AM to 1:45 PM.
Review materials: Review 1, Review 2, Review 3.
Review sessions: Phillips Mon 1-4 in P-143, Weds 1-3 in 3-113. Smith: regular office hours plus in 3-105 during usual recitation time.

Policies (common for both sections)

Final will be cumulative. It will be "open book": you are allowed to bring the textbook, notes on binary codes plus one sheet (letter sized, 2-sided) of personal notes. No computers or calculators may be used. Students using ebook edition or online text MUST contact the professor to arrange an alternative.
