Final Exam Information
Fall  2022

The final exam will be held on Thursday, December 8, from 2:15 to 5:00 pm.

Room assignments for this exam are by lecture number:

• Lecture 1 (Dr. Lee's class): Frey Hall 104.
  
  
• Lecture 2 (Prof. LeBrun's class): Earth & Space Science 001.
  

As on our midterm exams, you will not be allowed to use books or notes during the final. The use of calculators or other electronic devices during the exam will also be strictly forbidden.

Once again, you will be required to enter your recitation section number on the exam. This information will be needed to ensure that your grade is correctly recorded. Know your correct section number! If in doubt, check it now by clicking this link.

Bring your Stony Brook ID card to the exam. You will need it to turn in your exam.

The first half of the exam will focus on section 7.3, Appendix I, and the departmental notes on differential equations. You will need to understand

• separable first-order differential equations;
• second order linear homogeneous differential equations;
• initial-value problems involving either of the above;
• complex numbers;
• Euler's formula; and
• De Moivre's Theorem.

You should be well-prepared for the first half of the exam if you carefully work through the following problems:

• p. 514: exercises 1-18;
• Notes on Differential Equations: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15;
• p. A74-75: exercises 19-24 and 37-40;

The second half of the exam will revisit a few of the topics we covered earlier in the course:

• integration by parts;
• partial fractions;
• improper integrals;
• computing volumes of solids of revolution;
• Maclaurin series;
• Maclaurin polynomials; and
• radius of convergence.

To study for this part of the exam, first make sure that you have memorized items 1--20 ("Basic Forms") on the table of integrals given on reference page 6 at the back of your textbook. Next, make sure that you thoroughly understand figures 13 and 14 (graphs of trigonometric functions) on page A23-A24 in Appendix C of the textbook. Having done this, you will then be well prepared for the second half of the exam if you carefully work through the following problems:

• p. 387: exercises 1-10;
• p. 394: exercises 19-25;
• p. 421: exercises 5-13;
• p. 446: exercises 1-8;
• p. 617: exercises 25-28, 35-38; and
• p. 625: exercises 3-8.
