MAT 131, Fall 2001

Homework 1, due Feb 4 or 5

Homework should be handed in at your recitation. No late homework will be accepted. Solutions should be written neatly and clearly. Problems that ask you to ``explain'' or ``describe'' should be answered with complete English sentences. Because the main purpose of homework is to aid your learning, not as an evaluation tool for the instructor, only two problems will be graded each week. The rest will be checked to see that you have completed the assignment. Help with completing the homework problems and understanding their solutions is available from your TA or your instructor during office hours, or at the Math Learning Center (Physics A-127).

Reading for this week:

To the Student. A Preview of Calculus. Sections 1.1-1.5 (covered this week), section 1.6, and beginning of Chaper 2 (to be covered next week). You should also look over Appendices A, B, and C as preparation for the Early Exam.

Section 1.2 # 4, 8
Section 1.3 # 18, 32, 35, 42, 48(a)(b)
