An alternate driving route, if you don't like trucks: take the Northern State Parkway east to the end, continue on 347 east to Nicolls Road (Route 97) and turn left. The Main Entrance is on the left.

Getting from Laguardia or JFK to campus: either use an airport limousine, or take a Carey Bus to Jamaica station ((718) 632-0500 for more info) and continue by train.
But one of the nicest way of getting from the New York airports to Stony Brook is to be picked up by the Spartan Limo. You should make a reservation in advance on (516) 928-5454.
You can also call LI Airport Limo on (516) 234-0223 or Winston on (516) 924-1200.
From Newark Airport, you can take Olympia Bus to Penn Station in Manhattan, which is rather quick, and take the Long Island Rail Road from there.
