21-25 February 2011

Celebrating John Milnor's 80th birthday

Summary

On the occasion of John Milnor's 80th birthday, a conference was held at the Banff Center in Alberta, Canada. This brought together over 130 research mathematicians (ranging from graduate students to acknowledged experts) in the field) to discuss topics in holomorphic dynamics and allied fields such as several complex variables, Teichmüller theory, self-similar groups, arithmetic dynamics, symbolic dynamics, hyperbolic and algebraic geometry, statistical physics, and so on.

Schedule and Location

The conference was held at the Banff Center, with some participants staying at the adjacent Banff International Research Station.

You can see the list of participants (also in PDF), and the schedule of talks. And a here is a photo of most of the participants. Also available are some photos taken during the conference.

Videos of Lectures

The lectures were recorded, and the video recordings are available for streaming or download.

Poster

The conference poster is available as a PDF, in the following sizes: US letter, A4, and tabloid (11"×17"). Please feel free to distribute copies.

Proceedings

A refereed volume of proceedings is planned. If you participated and would like to to submit a paper, please let us know right away with an email to jackfest@math.sunysb.edu. Papers should be submitted by June 20, 2011 so that they can be reviewed in time for publication.

Support and Organizing Committee

Support for this conference was provided by BIRS, the Clay Mathematics Institute, IBM, the National Science Foundation, Stony Brook University, the University of Rhode Island, and the Simons Foundation.

The organizing committee was Araceli Bonifant, David A. Ellwood, Misha Lyubich, and Scott Sutherland.
