MAT 553: Algebraic Geometry - Abelian Varieties
Instructor: Samuel Grushevsky
Schedule: Monday 1:30-3:30
Classroom: Fine 801
First meeting: September 18
Course description:
This semester the course will be on the theory of (complex) abelian varieties, and especially linear systems on them. We will start by defining
abelian varieties and proving basic results in the subject, and progress to develop the theory leading in particular to the recent work on
syzygies, M-regularity, and vanishing by Pareschi and Popa. For the most part we will follow the textbook "Complex Abelian Varieties" by
Birkenhake and Lange (2nd ed).
