The topic for this semester is: Teaching in a multi-level mathematics classroom. We will discuss this topic at our weekly meetings, tentatively scheduled for Wednesdays at 5:20 p.m. Students, working in groups, or singly, will explore the literature on this topic, and will, INDIVIDUALLY write a 12-15 page paper on this topic. Possible topics for the individual papers include: Moral or political imperatives; scientific evidence; philosophical beliefs; Public attitudes; The perspective of the PTA parent; web based information and/or propaganda.
You must hand in a first draft of at least 8 pages by 04/22/05. The final draft of the paper is due on 05/12/05.
Grading Schedule:
Class Participation: 25%;
Appropriateness of the arguments and basic logic of the paper: 40%;
Grammar and grammatical structure: 25%;
Timeliness of submissions: 10%.
