Stony Brook University’s Department of Mathematics expects to have a lecturer position, director of the Math Learning Center (MLC), available with a start date of September 2013. Required: PhD in mathematics, five years of teaching mathematics at the college level, one year of experience administering a math help center/supervising TAs, knowledge of contents of undergraduate math courses at Stony Brook University, familiarity with the interconnection of undergraduate math courses at Stony Brook University, experience in coordinating undergraduate math courses (large, more than 500 students) and smaller courses, experience in Web Assign and similar platforms, and proficiency in web design. Responsibilities of the director of the MLC are: administration of the MLC in particular, scheduling and supervising tutors and faculty working in the MLC; maintaining MLC website; ordering necessary equipment; participating in developing syllabi and choosing textbooks for college algebra, pre-calculus and calculus classes taught by the Department; supervising the TAs teaching college algebra classes; teaching and coordinating pre-calculus/calculus math courses; and teaching graduate- level math courses for teachers.
