Stony Brook at the Putnam

Raymond Cassella placed 6th (of 3349 contestants) in the 2002 Putnam Mathematical Competition. Junmeng Chen placed 335th and Greg Grinberg 875th. Yao Hoa Mai and Ruan Yi-Lun rounded out the SBU team, which ranked 25 out of 476 participant teams. This is by far the best performance ever for Stony Brook at the Putnam. The team was coached by Prof. Sorin Popescu.
