Title: Puncture forgetting maps for measured foliations
Speaker: Insung Park, Stony Brook University
Location: Math P-131
Abstract:
Puncture forgetting has been investigated for many different objects, including Teichmuller space, mapping class groups, and curves. It is known, however, that the puncture forgetting lacks continuity for curves and the Thurston boundary(=projective measured foliations). In this talk, we discuss various methods for forgetting punctures from measured foliations, which are expected to be upper semi-continuous. Then we talk about its applications to Teichmuller geodesics, the dynamics of post-critically finite rational maps, and the action of point-pushing mapping classes. This is joint work with Jeremy Kahn.
